Nasim Makaremi Nia
Nasim is an artist and art educator based in Newfoundland and Labrador. She is currently pursuing an Interdisciplinary PhD at Memorial University. She holds an MSc in Solid-State Physics and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her multidisciplinary practice includes painting, drawing, printmaking, and textiles, with her background in physics deeply informing her artistic perspective.
Nasim has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery (NL), Eastern Edge Gallery (NL), Ottawa School of Art (ON), and the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador. She is a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant and the ArtsNL Professional Project Grant.
Her work explores themes of humanity, lived experience, women’s emotions, and immigration. She often incorporates imagery of animals, sanitary pads, and folded paper to address censorship and to investigate connections between land, body, and identity. In 2022, she received the Emerging Artist Award at the Excellence in Visual Arts (EVA) Awards presented by VANL-CARFAC.
Nasim est une artiste et éducatrice artistique basée à Terre‑Neuve‑et‑Labrador. Elle poursuit actuellement un doctorat interdisciplinaire à l’Université Memorial. Elle est titulaire d’une maîtrise en physique de l’état solide (MSc) et d’une maîtrise en beaux‑arts (MFA) du Grenfell Campus de l’Université Memorial de Terre‑Neuve. Sa pratique multidisciplinaire inclut la peinture, le dessin, la gravure et le textile, son bagage en physique influençant profondément sa perspective artistique.
Nasim a exposé en expositions individuelles et collectives à The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery (NL), Eastern Edge Gallery (NL), Ottawa School of Art (ON) et au Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador. Elle est récipiendaire de la bourse Elizabeth Greenshields et de la bourse ArtsNL Professional Project Grant.
Son travail explore des thèmes liés à l’humanité, à l’expérience vécue, aux émotions des femmes et à l’immigration. Elle intègre souvent des images d’animaux, de serviettes hygiéniques et de papiers pliés pour aborder la censure et investiguer les liens entre la terre, le corps et l’identité.
